“Loic received an excellent football education, coming through the PSG academy and captaining both the youth national team and his club at senior level. He has experienced the football cultures and demands of England, France, the Netherlands and Belgium. He made significant progress during his last six months at Sint-Truiden and attracted interest from clubs across Europe,” says Tomáš Rosický.
“We are bringing him in because of his technical and physical qualities and his style of defending. At 25, he is entering an important stage of his career, where he still has plenty to prove, and those are exactly the kind of players you want in your team. We are not bringing him in because he was a highly rated youth talent, but because of the player he can be for Sparta now and in the years to come,” Sparta’s sporting director adds.”
Although Loic was born in Cameroon, he grew up in the Paris metropolitan area. He joined the Paris Saint-Germain academy at the age of 12. For many years, he was regarded as a major talent and regularly captained France’s youth national teams. He made his PSG first-team debut in May 2019 away at Angers, alongside captain Marquinhos. Loic was just 17 years and 10 months old at the time.
Thanks to his league appearances, he can boast two French league titles, although he never managed to establish himself in Thomas Tuchel’s starting line-up. In September 2020, he therefore made the move to Nottingham Forest, who were still playing in the second tier of English football at the time. Loic also caught the attention of Italian newspaper Tuttosport, which included him among 100 players competing for the Golden Boy award for the best footballer under the age of 21.
In his first season in England, Loic made seven Championship appearances, spending most of the campaign on the bench for a team that ultimately finished 17th. The following season, Nottingham earned promotion to the Premier League, but the young defender still struggled for regular playing time, partly due to injury. He was therefore allowed to leave on loan, first joining French side Guingamp for the second half of the season. He then spent the 2023/24 campaign in the Eredivisie, where he represented Almere City.
After his contract with Nottingham expired, Mbe Soh signed for Belgian side Beerschot, a club Sparta fans know mainly thanks to the legendary Raymond Braine. Under former Netherlands international Dirk Kuyt, Loic began to rediscover his form and even took on the captain’s armband during the second half of the 2024/25 season. Beerschot were eventually relegated to the second tier, but Loic did not have to wait long for an opportunity to return to the top flight, with Sint-Truiden coming calling in January this year.
Sint-Truiden went on to finish the season in an impressive third place. Mbe Soh made 16 competitive appearances for the “Canaries”, scoring two goals. He will now continue adding to his tally in the red shirt.
